What is ROADEX III?

ROADEX III is the third project run by the ROADEX network of partners from the Northern Periphery of Europe.  It is the Implementation Project and follows on from the Pilot ROADEX project and subsequent ROADEX II Research and Innovation project.

TASK A

The project delivers a 2 year (2006 & 2007) trans-national collaboration across the Northern Periphery to disseminate and implement the roads management related information, practices and innovation gathered under the ROADEX project to date.

This will be done through a range of methods such as:

  • executive summaries of ROADEX outputs in partner languages;

  • conferences, seminars, workshops;

  • individual training packages,

  • publications;

  • lecture packs for institutions;

  • continuing professional development presentation resources;

  • web based information and online interest group forums; and

  • continuing pilot trials of prototype solutions on the rural road networks of the Partner areas.

  • E-learning packages for select 'ROADEX' topics

  • A framework will be created for disseminating results of future research after this project.

During 2007 a series of at least 14 ROADEX Seminars is running to disseminate ROADEX knowledge to road maintenance professionals. The programme is published on the SEMINARS page.

TASK B

A further 5  research tasks will be undertaken to add to the knowledge already published through ROADEX. These are: click here for more

  • B.1: “Drainage guidelines” (T Saarenketo, Roadscanners Oy)

  • B.2: “Pavement deformation mitigation measures” (R Munro, Roadscanners Oy)

  • B.3: “Health issues raised by poorly maintained roads” (J Granlund, SRA)

  • B.4: “Road condition management policies” (S Johansson, Roadscanners AB)

  • B.5: “A ROADEX III Case Study in Greenland” (N Brock, ARTEK)

TASK C

5 more tasks have been added to the project following the granting of additional funding by the NPP in June 2007. These are:

  • C.1 An extension of the e-learning project. This permits the production of additional educational material and graphics to make the package more complete and attractive to users.

  • C.2 A 10 minute video on the application of ROADEX technologies to Greenland. This  complements the ROADEX III “Greenland Case Study” (Task B.5) and presents how the new ROADEX technologies can be readily applied to new areas and circumstances.

  • C.3 A 10 minute promotional video for the ROADEX project. It is intended that this video will be available for download from the ROADEX website. It will show how the ROADEX project meets the targets of the Lisbon and Gothenburg agendas, why the low-volume roads are important, why the project is a success and what is needed to create successful partnerships.

  • C.4 Promotional brochures for use by the ROADEX project and Partners. These would summarise the benefits of the ROADEX project, how the project meets the targets of the Lisbon and Gothenburg agendas, why the project is a success and what is needed to create successful partnerships.

  • C.5 Additional conferences and seminars in addition to the existing programme in the Partner areas and within Europe in support of NPP and INTERREG activities. The intention is to present the ROADEX project, the project results, the creation of effective partnerships and how the ROADEX project has met the targets of the Lisbon and Gothenburg agendas.
